“Ah, yes, divorce ... from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man's genitals through his wallet.” Robin Williams

i grocery shopped today using my wic vouchers. oh boy. each item has it's own voucher (except tuna, carrots and some of the cheese. *scratches head*) and i think i had 20+ vouchers. here's what i got and what i saved:

kix cereal - $5.74
life cereal - $4.79
corn flakes - $4.75
cheerios - $4.45
dry peas - $1.05
dry beans - $0.94
dry lentils - $1.05
pineapple juice (4) - 4 x $4.59
white grape juice - $4.59
apple juice - $ 3.67
veggie juice (2) - 2 x $3.50
carrots - $1.49
tuna fish (4) - 4 x $0.99
eggs (4 doz) - 4 x $3.69 (can you say easter?)
monterey jack cheese - $7.99
cheddar cheese (3) - 3 x $5.49 (i bought the tillamook *grins*)
milk (2) - 2 x $3.99
evaporated milk (6) - 6 x $0.99

for a total savings of approximately $120!

so, i'm gonna make some quiche to freeze i think.

i still have several vouchers for milk. anyone know great evaporated milk recipes?

what did i learn from this experience? it takes a really really long time to check out with wic checks. i think in the future i will break the shopping up into smaller trips (mainly so as not to hold up the line for 20 minutes. i also learned that i cannot wait until they add fresh fruits/veggies and whole grains to the program. supposedly this will happen before the end of the year - anyone know for sure?
