Celeste, I'm 42, history of breast cancer in family, had early mammograms, but have been nursing my 3 year old and docs have said not to have a mammogram while nursing. Just wondering if your docs know you are nursing? If they said it was OK maybe I should get in & get one ... but just wondering in case yours assumed you would not be nursing, as mine did -- they didn't even ask till I volunteered, then looked alarmed.
YES, there is still some value in getting a mammo even while nursing, according to my ob/gyn and my oncologists. they are a bit harder to read and may not be AS accurate but i'd err on the side of having one anyway... i was fairly empty when i had mine done (maybe pump or pick a less full time of the day?) and it didn't seem to interfere with the pictures. the tech could clearly identify the milk ducts and the actual milk so i'm sure an experienced person could interpret the scans pretty well. obviously i'm not a doctor but you'd think with a family history of breast cancer they'd want you in there for a baseline mammo.
