and we had a most excellent time! r and i drove down to monterey on friday (after a very nice visit with emily) afternoon and checked into our hotel room. we were only 200-ish steps from the beach. r and parker played in the water for a while, then dried off and we went and had dinner. before amanda and adam came down we took her to the indoor caurosel and let her play in the sand some more- we had a pretty early evening.

[be back after i feed the boo.]
[errands got to me too!] anyway. so saturday the five of us walked down the trail and met eric and melea (r's cousin) for breakfast. eric is a language specialist in the army stationed at the presidio of monterey; he speaks korean and is currently learning arabic. so cool! we got to go on base and get some discount tickets to the aquarium (which turned out to not be such a great discount; student tickets would've been cheaper! oh well...) parker hadn't been to the aquarium before and she loved it.
we watched the sea otter feeding but she liked the big kelp tank the best. later that evening we met up with dad and maria and went to sly mcfly's for dinner. we all stayed and watched his band play (and drank a little too much!) i left at about 10.15 and went back to the hotel with parker to put her to bed. everyone else was out until about 1am. the next morning the whole group of us had breakfast and headed home. everyone got along swimmingly and we're planning another trip down there to visit eric and melea again. r and i kept asking each other, why don't we have more friends like this at home? they're our age and although they don't have kids yet, they seem like they'll be the kind of parents we think we are!
